TENNESSEE VALLEY REGIONAL
HOUSING AUTHORITY
Public Housing was established to provide decent, safe, sanitary, and in good repair housing for eligible individuals, low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. TVRHA's Public Housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family homes, duplexes, townhouses, to high-rise apartments for elderly families.

TVRHA has staff available to assist our Public Housing tenants with life skills. Assistance is available in general housekeeping, money management, childcare development, vocational training, drug prevention, WIN Job Program, as well as others.

Also offered through TVRHA is the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, which increases the ability of the very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing by allowing them to choose privately owned rental property. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses, apartments and manufactured homes. The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing developments.

Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a HUD program that encourages communities to develop local strategies to help assisted families obtain employment that will lead to economic independence and self-sufficiency. TVRHA works with welfare agencies, schools, businesses, and other local partner to develop a comprehensive program that gives participating FSS family members the skills and experience to enable them to obtain employment that pays a living wage.
